History of Jhansi Fort!

Jhansi Fort, located in the heart of Jhansi city, was a major center of resistance during the 1857 Revolt.

The fort was built by Raja Vir Singh Ju Deo of Orchha on a rocky hill called Bangra.

Maharaja Chattrasal offered Jhansi to the Peshwa after defeating the Mughals.

Naroshanker extended the fort and built Shankergarh in 1742.

Raja Gangadhar Rao, a good administrator, married Lakshmibai in 1842.

The British annexed Jhansi after Gangadhar Rao's death in 1853.

Lakshmibai took control of the fort during the 1857 revolt.

The British besieged and captured the fort in April 1858 and was later given to Maharaja Jayajirao Scindia in 1861.
