  • It is a mountainous country of western North Africa that lies directly across the Strait of Gibraltar from Spain.
  • It is the only African country with coastal exposure to both Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea.
  • The Rif Mountains in the north form a buffer along the Mediterranean coastline, whereas the Atlas Mountains create a barrier across the centre.
  • It shares boundaries with:

Why in news?
