Combing operations were recently conducted as precautionary measures to increase vigilance in areas surrounding the Mukurthi National Park (MNP).

- MNP is a protected area located in the western corner of the Nilgiris Plateau in Tamil Nadu.
- It was created to protect its keystone species, the Nilgiri tahr.
- It was previously known as Nilgiri Tahr National Park.
- Characteristics: Montane grasslands and shrublands interspersed with sholas in a high altitude, high rainfall, near-freezing temperatures, and high winds.
- It is home to endangered wildlife including the Royal Bengal tiger and Asian elephant.
- It is a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve (India’s first International Biosphere Reserve).
- As part of the Western Ghats, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2012.
