On National Sports Day (August 29), the Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment launched the RESET Programme.

About the RESET Programme:

  • This initiative aims to empower retired athletes by enhancing their skills and employability, leveraging their extensive experience to benefit future generations of sports enthusiasts.
  • Full form of RESET: Retired Sportsperson Empowerment Training.

Objectives:

  • To empower retired sportspersons with knowledge and skills for career development and increased employability.
  • To bridge the generational gap by utilizing the experience of retired athletes for nurturing future sports champions.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Retired athletes aged between 20-50 years.
  • Must have won international medals or participated in international events, or have been national/state medallists/participants in competitions recognized by national sports federations or the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports.

Key Features:

  • Internships: Opportunities in sports organizations, sporting competitions/training camps, and leagues.
  • Support Services:
    • Placement assistance.
    • Guidance for entrepreneurial ventures.
  • Implementation: Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE) to lead the pilot phase
  • Mode: Hybrid learning mode-
    • Self-paced learning through a dedicated portal.
    • Onground training and internships.
  • Levels: Two levels based on educational qualifications-
    • Class 12th and above
    • Class 11th and below
