15th Foundation Day of Competition Commission of India (CCI) was recently celebrated.
About CCI:
- A statutory body that enforces the Competition Act, 2002, promoting competition and preventing activities with an appreciable adverse effect on competition in India.
- Established in 2003, it became fully operational in 2009 under the Competition Act, 2002.
Composition:
- Includes a Chairperson and 2-6 Members appointed by the Central Government.
Functions:
- Eliminate practices adversely affecting competition.
- Protect consumers’ interests.
- Promote and sustain competition in Indian markets.
- Ensure freedom of trade in Indian markets.
- Provide opinions on competition issues referred by statutory authorities.
