Swiss organisation IQAir recently released its 6th Annual Report The “World Air Quality” by assessing the air quality of 134 countries.
Key Findings:
- Seven countries achieved the WHO annual PM2.5 guideline, including Australia, Estonia, Finland, Grenada, Iceland, Mauritius, and New Zealand.
- Bangladesh, Pakistan, and India were identified as the top 3 most polluted countries, with PM2.5 levels surpassing WHO guidelines by significant margins.
- 124 out of 134 countries and regions exceeded the WHO annual PM2.5 guideline of 5 µg/m3.
- Africa remains inadequately represented in air quality monitoring, with a substantial portion of the population lacking access to vital data.
- Southeast Asia experienced a rise in PM2.5 concentrations due to climate conditions and transboundary haze.
