About Glioblastoma:

  • Glioblastoma is the most aggressive and common form of primary brain tumor in adults.
  • It originates in the brain itself, specifically in the star-shaped cells known as astrocytes.

Characteristics of Glioblastoma

  • Highly malignant due to its ability to reproduce its cells rapidly.
  • Known for forming its own blood vessels to maintain growth (angiogenesis).
  • Difficult to treat because of its invasive nature and rapid spread within brain tissue.

Symptoms

  • Symptoms vary depending on the tumor’s location but may include headaches, nausea, seizures, and cognitive or personality changes.

Diagnosis

  • Typically diagnosed through imaging tests such as MRI and CT scans.
  • Confirmation is done via biopsy, where a sample of the tumor is examined under a microscope.

Treatment Options

  • Standard treatment involves a combination of surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy.
  • Surgery aims to remove as much of the tumor as possible.

Radiation and chemotherapy help destroy remaining cancer cells and control growth.
