Scientists at the ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (NBFGR) have recently found mass Sea anemone bleaching near the Agatti island of Lakshadweep.
About the Sea anemone:
- It is an ocean-dwelling animal with soft bodies and an ability to sting, used for predation.
- Mostly found in coastal tropical waters.
- Closely associated with corals and live rocks due to a symbiotic relationship with green algae.
- Has a symbiotic relationship with clownfish, hermit crabs, small fish, etc.
- Significant for playing biogeochemical roles in benthic (bottom-most zone of the ocean) ecosystems.
