The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) started working on the Shinku La Tunnel near the China Border.
About Shinkun La tunnel:
- Shinku La, also known as Shingo-La Tunnel, is a mountain pass at the boundary between Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh.
- Positioned at an elevation of 5,091 meters (approximately 15,800 feet).
- Upon completion, it will surpass the Mila tunnel in China as the world’s highest tunnel.
- It will connect Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul Valley with Ladakh’s Zanskar Valley.
- Part of Project Yojak, aimed at enhancing connectivity in Northern India.
- Expected to facilitate easier transport of heavy machinery to critical strategic locations such as Kargil and Siachen.
