The India-US Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET) has gained significance recently due to high-level meetings etween the nations.
About iCET:
- In 2023, the Indian National Security Council Secretariat and the U.S. National Security Council launched iCET, a cooperation framework on Critical and Emerging Technologies (CET) including space, semiconductors, telecommunications, clean energy, and biotechnology.
Key Highlights of the meeting:
- Over the next 5 years, more than $90 million in government funding will be unlocked to support the U.S.-India Global Challenges Institute, fostering research partnerships in semiconductor technology and sustainable agriculture.
- Launch of the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar, a jointly developed satellite that will map Earth’s surface every 12 days to aid climate change efforts.
- Exploration of opportunities to participate in the Lunar Gateway Programme (LGP), which aims to build a space station around the moon as part of the collaborative Artemis program.
