The World Economic Forum recently released the “Fostering Effective Energy Transition 2024” report, utilizing the Energy Transition Index (ETI) which evaluates 120 countries based on their energy system performance.

  • Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Switzerland, and France lead the ETI rankings, showcasing superior energy system performance.
  • Clean energy investments have surged to $1.8 trillion in 2023, yet about 90% of this growth since 2021 has occurred in advanced economies and China.
  • Among the G20 economies, six are featured in the ETI top 20, including France, Germany, Brazil, China, the UK, and the US, with India ranking 63rd.
  • Eight countries, including Bhutan, Comoros, Gabon, Guyana, Madagascar, Niue, Panama, and Suriname, have achieved net-zero emissions.
  • The application of generative AI in energy systems is projected to generate over $500 billion in annual savings for companies.
