High-speed Expendable Aerial Target (HEAT)- ABHYAS

DRDO (Defence Research & Development Organisation) conducted four successful flight trials of High-speed Expendable Aerial Target (HEAT), named ‘ABHYAS.’

About ABHYAS:

• ABHYAS offers a realistic threat scenario for practice of weapon systems.
• It serves as an aerial target for weapon system firing practice.
• It is designed to be targeted by missiles and other payloads during trials and practice sessions.

Features of ABHYAS:

• ABHYAS is designed for autonomous flying with an auto-pilot system made by DRDO’s Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE).
• It has Radar Cross Section, Visual and Infrared augmentation systems required for weapon practice.
• The system utilizes a laptop-based Ground Control System for integration, pre-flight checks, data recording, replay, and post-flight analysis.
• ABHYAS requires minimum logistics and is cost-effective compared to imported equivalents.
