The Ministry of Labour and Employment recently announced that the national portal for unorganized workers, e-Shram achieved over 30 crore registrations in the last 3 years.
About E-Shram:
- It is the first-ever national database of unorganised workers including migrant workers, construction workers, gig and platform workers, etc.
- It was developed for creating a National Database of Unorganized Workers (NDUW), which will be seeded with Aadhaar.
- It contains details of name, occupation, address, occupation type, educational qualification, skill types etc. for optimum realization of their employability and extend the benefits to them.
Significance of E-Shram:
- Since its launch in 2021, the portal has showcased a rapid and widespread adoption among the unorganised workers.
- The Labour Ministry would coordinate with different Ministries and Departments to develop eShram as “One-Stop-Solution” for Unorganised Workers.
- This will serve as a facilitator to ensure seamless access of various Government schemes to the unorganised workers and create awareness for various schemes.
- The integration of social security schemes on eShram will help in saturation of schemes and access of schemes to left out eligible eShram workers.
