About The Konkan Region:

  • The Konkan is a stretch of land by the western coast of India, bound by the Daman Ganga in the north, to Anjediva Island next to Karwar town in the south.
  • It has the Arabian Sea to the west and the Deccan plateau in the east.
  • This is also called Aparanta, or Aparantaka was a geographical region of ancient India.
    • It corresponded to the northern part of the Konkan region on the western coast of India.
  • The ancient Sapta Konkan was a larger geographical area that extended from Gujarat to Kerala and included the whole region of coastal Maharashtra and coastal Karnataka.
  • However, this segment overlaps the Konkan and Malabar coast continuum.
  • Bounded by the Western Mountains’ range, Sahyadri (East), the Arabian Sea (West), the Daman Ganga (North), and the Aghanashini River (South).
  • The largest city on the Konkan coast is Mumbai, which is also the headquarters of Konkan division.
