An Areca Research Centre in Karnataka has recently declared Thirthahalli Arecanut as the best quality Areca in the state.
About the Arecanut:
- It is a tropical horticultural, perennial & commercial crop, that is a major source of Arecanut (betel nut/Supari).
- India is the largest producer and consumer, with Karnataka being the largest producer.
- India imports arecanut from Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Indonesia.
- India exports arecanut to the United Kingdom, Germany, and the Netherlands.
- It is susceptible to drought, pests, and diseases like Kole Roga/Mahali, Yellow Leaf Disease, Anabe, etc.
