76th Army Day was recently observed in India, with the event taking place in Lucknow instead of the customary locations in Delhi and Bengaluru.

- TheArmy Day is observed on January 15 in India to commemorate the appointment of Field Marshal KM (Kodandera Madappa) Cariappa as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army after independence.
- Indian Army established on April 1, 1895 had gained its first Indian Chief on January 15, 1949.
- Field Marshal KM Cariappa appointed as the first Indian Army Chief post-independence, taking over from General Francis Butcher.
- During the crucial period of post-independence communal riots, soldiers had played a vital role in maintaining peace.
About KM (Kodandera Madappa) Cariappa:
- KM Cariappa was the first Indian Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C) of the Indian Army.
- He is one of only 2 Indian Army officers to hold the five-star rank of Field Marshal; the other being Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw.
