The Prime Minister recently participated in ‘Bharat Shakti’ Tri-Services Live Fire and Manoeuvre Exercise in Pokhran, Rajasthan.
About Bharat Shakti Exercise:
- The exercise simulated realistic, synergized, multi-domain operations displaying integrated operational capabilities of the Indian armed forces.
- It is a significant step to counter threats across land, air, sea, cyber, and space domains.
- The exercise showcased the prowess of indigenously manufactured defence equipment across the three services.
- Exercise aligns with the Aatmanirbharata initiative, showcasing India’s capabilities in multi-domain operations.
- Several top-line equipment development and license manufactured in India were demonstrated by all three services.
- Indian Army showed T-90 (IM) tanks, Dhanush and Sarang artillery guns, Akash surface to air system, logistics drones, robotic mules, and other Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).
- Indian Navy displayed Naval Anti-Ship Missiles, Autonomous Cargo Carrying Aerial Vehicles, and Expendable Aerial Targets.
- Indian Air Force showcased indigenous aircraft, namelyLight Combat Aircraft Tejas, Light Utility Helicopters, and Advanced Light Helicopters.
Significance of the exercise:
- Pokhran has become witness to a trinity of India’s self-reliance, belief and self-pride.
- It would reduce dependence on other countries and India’s defence production has more than doubled, exceeding ₹1 lakh crore, in the past decade.
- More than 150 defence startups have emerged, and the armed forces have committed orders worth ₹1,800 crore to support them.
- A self-reliant India in the defence sector instils confidence in the armed forces.
