BrahMos Missile, a universal long-range supersonic cruise system developed jointly by DRDO, India, and NPOM, Russia, has recently secured approval for the acquisition of over 200 extended-range variants.
About BrahMos Missile:
- It is a universal long-range supersonic cruise missile system that can be launched from land, sea and air.
- Supersonic cruise missile travels at a speed of around 2-3 Mach i.e.; it travels a kilometer approximately in a second.
- The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), India, and Near-field Projection Optical Microscope (NPOM), Russia, have jointly developed it.
- It has been designed with two variants for Anti-Ship and Land-Attack roles.
Key Feature:
- It has Fire and Forget principle of operation.
- It has a long flight range (290km) with a variety of flight trajectories.
- It has a low radar signature.
- Pinpoint accuracy with high lethal power aided by large kinetic energy on impact.
