A cloudburst recently occurred in Arunachal Pradesh’s Itanagar, causing a flood-like situation.
About Cloudbursts:
- Defined by the India Meteorological Department as intense rainfall events, cloudbursts occur when over 100 mm of rain falls within an hour over a small area.
- They are most common during the monsoon season in mountainous regions such as the Himalayas, Western Ghats, and northeastern states, although they can also happen on plains.
- The rapid precipitation from cloudbursts often leads to flooding, landslides, and other severe impacts.
