The Central Government has recently launched the Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme 2024 (EMPS 2024) as the successor to the FAME-II scheme, which will soon expire.
- The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has boosted the FAME II budget by Rs 1,500 crore, to be used until funds deplete or by March 31.
About the EMPS 2024:
- The EMPS 2024 is designed to accelerate the adoption of electric 2-wheelers and 3-wheelers, along with promoting the growth of the EV manufacturing sector, with a budget of Rs 500 crore for 4 months.
- The scheme will support the adoption of approximately 3.7 Lakh EVs and is focused on vehicles that include advanced battery systems across specific categories like private, corporate, and commercial vehicles, including E-Rickshaws, E-Carts, and L5 Category Vehicles.
- Additionally, the Phased Manufacturing Programme (PMP) within EMPS 2024 aims to boost domestic manufacturing and strengthen the EV supply chain.
