The European Union (EU) has recently approved the first-of-its-kind Nature Restoration Plan (NRP), designed to boost environmental protection across the EU bloc as part of the European Green Deal.
About Nature Restoration Plan:
- The NRP, which supports the goal of achieving net zero emissions of greenhouse gases by 2050, was developed following the adoption of the National Restoration Laws.
- It includes binding restoration targets, requiring member states to restore at least 20% of the EU’s land and sea areas by 2030, with an aim to restore all ecosystems by 2050.
- The plan will be implemented through the National Restoration Plans of EU countries and encompasses various ecosystems, including wetlands, forests, grasslands, urban and marine areas, and focuses on the protection of pollinating insects.
