New research has highlighted that ferroptosis causes severe lung damage in COVID-19 patients.
About Ferroptosis:
- Ferroptosis is an unusual form of iron-dependent cell death where cells die due to the collapse of their outer fat layers, rather than from aging or disease.
- It is accompanied by significant iron accumulation and lipid peroxidation during the cell’s death process.
- This process closely contributes to many diseases, such as tumors, nervous system diseases, and kidney injury.
