SJVN Limited, a Mini Ratna Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU), has recently commissioned a 90 MW floating solar project at Omkareshwar Floating Solar Park in Madhya Pradesh.

  • Solar panels or photovoltaic panels are installed on floating structures on water bodies like lakes and reservoirs.
  • Potential Capacity in India: 280-300 GW (as per the World Bank)
  • The first floating solar was established in Japan in 2007
  • They are installed in the states of Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Telangana, Bihar and Rajasthan.

Advantages:

  • Reduced water evaporation, and algal blooming improved water quality.
  • Cooler operating temperatures.
  • Conservation of land resources.
  • Utilizes otherwise s surfaces.
  • Provide electricity to several households located near the pond.
  • Installing an Aerator can increase the productivity of fish farming in the pond.
