About the directives:

  • This directive is issued because, according to the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulation-2018, companies cannot claim 100% fruit juice for reconstituted juices since they are primarily composed of water.

Key highlights of the directive:

  • Products must be labelled according to the Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020.
  • The term “reconstituted” must appear next to the juice name in the ingredient list.
  • Juices containing more than 15 grams/kg of sugar must be labeled as ‘Sweet juice’.
