- It is named after the Port of Aden, a Yemeni port.
- It lies between the coasts of Arabia and the Horn of Africa.
Physical Characteristics:
- It is classified as a deepwater gulf and part of the Indian Ocean.
- It features Sheba Ridge, a dominant relief feature and an extension of the Indian Ocean ridge system.
Maritime Connections:
- It is connected to the Red Sea through the Bab-el-Mandeb strait in the northwest and to the Arabian Sea in the east.
- It narrows into Djibouti’s Gulf of Tadjoura to the west, serving as a critical natural sea link.
