The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has recently formed a 3-member ad hoc committee to oversee the operations of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).

Functions:

  • It ensures the regular celebration of the Olympic Games and to promote the principles of the Olympic Charter.
  • It encourages and supports the promotion of ethics, fair play, and the development of sports worldwide.
  • It is responsible for selecting the host cities for the Olympic Games, via a bidding process.

Membership:

  • It is composed of members who are representatives of the Olympic Movement in their respective countries.
  • The IOC Members, are elected by the Session, which is the general assembly of the IOC.

Initiatives:

  • Olympic Solidarity is a program initiated by the IOC to provide financial and technical assistance to National Olympic Committees (NOCs) with the greatest need.
  • It collaborates with various anti-doping organizations to ensure the integrity and fairness of the Olympic Games.

About the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI):

  • The WFI is the governing body for the sport of wrestling in India.
  • It was formed in 1967 to promote and develop wrestling at various levels, including grassroots and international competitions.
  • It is headquartered in New Delhi.
