India’s UPI services recently launched in Sri Lanka and Mauritius reflect its India’s Neighbourhood First Policy and maritime vision “SAGAR” (Security and Growth for All in the Region).
About the Neighbourhood First Policy (NFP):
- The Neighbourhood First Policy (NFP) guides India’s relations with its immediate neighbours except for China, focusing on enhancing connectivity, trade, and commerce since its inception in 2008.
- It is based on the 5S principles: Samman, Samvad, Shanti, Samriddhi, and Sanskriti, and emphasizes 3Cs: Connectivity, Commerce, and Cultural Commonalities.
- The significance of NFP lies in strengthening India’s regional position, promoting stability, security, economic growth, and enhancing soft power, aiming for a peaceful resolution of disputes and stronger multilateralism.
