About Kanger Valley National Park:

  • Also known as Kanger Ghati National Park, it was established in July 1982.
  • It is located in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh, India.
  • It extends from Tirathgarh Waterfall (West)Kolab River (East), and borders the state of Odisha.
  • The Kanger River valley divides the park into two halves.

Biodiversity:

  • Fauna: Panther, Wildcat, Cheetal (Spotted Deer), Sambhar, Barking Deer, Wild Pig, Jackal, Langur, Rhesus Macaque, Sloth Bear, Flying Squirrel, Python, Hyena, Rabbit, Crocodile, and Civet.
  • Avifauna: Birds of prey, scavenging birds, water birds, pheasants, and the Bastar Hill Myna (Gracula religiosa peninsularis), state bird of Chhattisgarh.
  • Reptiles and Insects: Various species of snakes, lizards, butterflies, moths, and dragonflies.
  • Flora: It is home to a wide range of plant species, including bryophytes and pteridophytes.
