The Odisha government has recently approached Tamil Nadu to seek its expertise in deploying trained kumki elephants and mahouts to manage and mitigate the human-elephant conflict.

  • Kumkis were introduced in the 1990s in Similipal and Chandaka of Odisha to address growing conflicts.
