The Defence Ministry has recently issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the procurement of 156 Light Combat Helicopters.
About Light Combat Helicopters:
- The LCH is India’s first indigenous multi-role light combat helicopter, designed and manufactured by HAL.
- It is equipped with the anti-tank guided missile ‘Dhruvastra’ and air-to-air missile ‘Mistral-2’.
- The helicopter was conceptualized following the 1999 Kargil conflict to perform precision strikes in high-altitude areas like the Siachen glacier.
Features:
- The LCH boasts modern stealth capabilities, robust armour protection, and the ability to track slow-moving aerial targets.
- It is designed for various roles including search and rescue missions and night attacks.
- Features include radar-absorbing materials to reduce radar visibility, a crash-proof structure, and reinforced landing gear.
