Japanese researchers have developed the world’s first wooden satellite, Lignosat, in collaboration with NASA and JAXA.
About Lignosat:
- The tiny cuboid craft, made from Magnolia wood for its strength and resilience, will be launched by a SpaceX rocket.
- This initiative aims to reduce space clutter and promote environmentally friendly space activities.
- Lignosat offers significant benefits over traditional aluminium satellites, as it will burn harmlessly upon re-entry, releasing no harmful particles.
- Additionally, electromagnetic waves can easily pass through wood, facilitating the encapsulation of instruments within the satellite’s structure.
