The United Arab Emirates announces its participation in NASA’s Lunar Gateway project.
About Lunar Gateway Project:
- The Lunar Gateway is a multinational project involving NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA), Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), CSA, and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC).
- It will function as a communication hub, science laboratory, and habitation module in lunar orbit.
- The station’s construction is planned for the 2020s, to expand human presence to Mars and deeper into the Solar System.
Gateway’s Role in Artemis and Beyond
- Gateway is a crucial element in NASA’s Artemis program, with construction and operation involving international and commercial partners.
- It will serve as a staging point for both robotic and crewed lunar south pole exploration.
- The Gateway is also proposed as a staging point for NASA’s Deep Space Transport concept for missions to Mars.
