Qatar has proposed to sell 12 Mirage-2000-5 fighter jets to India.
Mirage 2000:
- It is a 4th generation multirole supersonic jet capable of reaching speeds up to Mach 2.2.
- Features a single engine and delta-wing design.
- Manufactured by Dassault Aviation, a French company.
- It can be equipped with laser-guided bombs, air-to-air missiles, air-to-surface missiles, auxiliary fuel tanks, and Thomson-CSF RDY radar.
Mirage 2000 in India:
- Nicknamed ‘Vajra’ (Thunderbolt), it was commissioned into the Indian Air Force in 1985.
- Played key roles in Operation Safed Sagar (Kargil war 2000) and Operation Bandar (Air strike 2019).
