The National Exit Test (NExT) for AYUSH has been made effective starting from the 2021-2022 batch.
About National Exit Test (NExT):
- NExT is a medical licensing exam designed to assess the competency of medical graduates.
- Students with degrees from NMC-approved medical institutions, along with overseas medical graduates, must pass the NExT to practice medicine in India.
- It is held to grant licenses for practicing as medical practitioners in their respective disciplines of the Indian system of medicine.
- It is also mandatory for enrolment in the State Register or National Register as a registered medical practitioner under the Indian system of medicine.
- The exam is conducted by the commissions, under the provisions of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) Act 2020 and the National Commission for Homoeopathy (NCH) Act, 2020.
- The NExT exam is centralized and will be conducted by a body formed by the commission.
- The National Medical Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2022 proposes the formation of an autonomous body called the Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences, which will eventually be responsible for conducting the NExT.
- Currently, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) handles exams like NEET PG and the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE), which NExT will replace.
- The test will have two separate steps to evaluate candidates.
Eligibility:
- All students who have completed the final MBBS course from a recognized medical college are eligible to appear.
- There is no limit on attempts, but both steps must be passed within 10 years of joining the MBBS program.
- Foreign medical graduates will also need to pass the NExT to obtain a license for medical practice in India.
