The National Statistical Office (NSO) has recently published a report detailing the value of output from agriculture and allied sectors for the period 2011-12 to 2022-23.
Key Highlights of the Report:
- In 2022-23, the shares of Crop, Livestock, Forestry, and Fishing sub-sectors in the total agricultural output were 54.3%, 30.9%, and 6.9% respectively.
- Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh contributed significantly, accounting for about a quarter of the livestock output.
Trend Analysis (2011-12 to 2022-23):
- Crop: The share declined steadily from 62% to approximately 54%.
- Livestock: Showed a steady increase from ₹487.8 thousand crore (26%) to ₹878.5 thousand crore (30%).
- Forestry & Logging: Increased from ₹149 thousand crore (7.8%) to ₹223 thousand crore (7.9%).
- Fishing: Experienced a steady rise from ₹80 thousand crore (4.2%) to ₹195 thousand crore (6.9%).
