SpaceX launched the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) the PACE satellite using its Falcon rocket.
About PACE:
- It stands for Pre-Aerosol, Cloud, and ocean Ecosystem.
- It is an Earth-observing satellite mission that will continue and advance observations of global ocean colour, biogeochemistry, and ecology, as well as the carbon cycle, aerosols and clouds.
- It is managed by NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, which designed and built the main instrument and bus.
Benefits:
- Current Earth-observing satellites can see in seven or eight colours, but Pace will see in 200 colours which will allow scientists to identify the types of algae in the sea and types of particles in the air.
- It will benefit the economy and society, especially sectors that rely on water quality, fisheries and food security.
- It will be used to identify the extent and duration of phytoplankton blooms and improve understanding of air quality.
