NCERT recently launched the Holistic Progress Card (HPC), developed by PARAKH (Performance Assessment, Review and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development).
About the Holistic Progress Card (HPC):
- It aimed at providing a comprehensive evaluation of students’ academic performance, cognitive abilities, socio-emotional skills, and creativity.
- The HPC encourages student self-assessment and peer evaluation, while parents provide insights into their child’s performance at home, and student records are digitized via the Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK) platform to streamline the assessment process.
- It aligns with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE) to make evaluation more learner-centric and is currently available for the foundational stage (Classes 1 and 2), preparatory stage (Classes 3 to 5), and middle stage (Classes 6 to 8), with development for the secondary stage (beyond Class 9) ongoing.
About the PARAKH:
- PARAKH sets norms, standards, and guidelines for student assessment and evaluation for all recognized school boards and focuses on capacity development in competency-based assessment, large-scale achievement surveys, equivalence of school boards, andholistic progress cards for all stages of school education.
- It was established within NCERT in 2023 as a National Assessment Centre.
- It also guides the State Achievement Survey and undertakes the National Achievement Survey to monitor the achievement of learning outcomes across the country, in line with tasks mandated by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
