About Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAs):

  • Also known as ‘Forever Chemicals’, Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAs) are a vast family of synthetic chemicals that are pervasive in our environment.
  • They are found in everyday products like non-stick cookware, water or stain-resistant coatings, and industrial materials.
  • Common Uses: Nonstick cookware, water-repellent clothing, stain-resistant fabrics, cosmetics, and firefighting foams.
    • They help products resist grease, water, and oil.

Environmental and Health Concerns:

  • Persistence in Nature: PFAS do not easily break down, leading to long-term environmental presence.
  • Bioaccumulation: Accumulate in living organisms, increasing exposure and potential harm over time.
  • Health Risks: Linked to liver damage, hormonal imbalances, fertility issues, and increased cancer risk.
  • Immune System Impact: May impair antibody formation after vaccinations.
