The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment launched the Pradhan Mantri Samajik Utthan evam Rozgar Adharit Jankalyan (PM-SURAJ) portal.
About PM-SURAJ:
- The PM-SURAJ portal has been introduced by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment to facilitate societal upliftment and economic welfare.
- It specifically targets the upliftment of the most marginalized segments of society, such as Dalits, backward classes, the deprived, and tribals.
- The portal serves as a one-stop solution for disadvantaged individuals, offering them an avenue to apply for and monitor various loan and credit schemes tailored to their needs.
Elimination of Middlemen and Direct Assistance:
- One of the critical aspects of PM-SURAJ is the elimination of intermediaries, which ensures that financial assistance reaches the beneficiaries directly and efficiently.
- This move is aimed at reducing corruption and ensuring that the aid provided by the government is fully utilized by the intended recipients.
Supporting Viksit Bharat Vision:
- PM-SURAJ aligns with the government’s Viksit Bharat (Developed India) vision for 2047, aiming to provide equal facilities such as gas connections, bank accounts, and toilets for disadvantaged communities.
- The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to empowering SC, ST, and OBC communities by doubling the assistance previously extended to these groups over the past decade.
- In the current fiscal year, approximately INR 1.60 lakh crores have been allocated specifically for the welfare of the SC community.
Key Objectives and Features:
- The primary objective of PM-SURAJ is to support and provide credit assistance to one lakh entrepreneurs belonging to disadvantaged communities.
- The initiative offers nationwide credit support, facilitated through banks, Non-Banking Financial Company – Micro Finance Institutions (NBFC-MFIs), and other relevant organizations.
