The Ministry of Labour and Employment has recently expanded the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) to include a broader range of marginalized workers.

  • A new Management Information System (MIS) portal for Building, Construction, and Migrant Workershas also been launched to manage information on fund utilization & worker coverage.

Extension of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) Scheme:

  • Duration: Extended for an additional five years, from FY 2024-25 to FY 2028-29.
  • Objective: Address the housing needs of economically disadvantaged workers.
  • Scope: The Ministry has urged all State Governments to include the following groups under PMAY-
    • Migrant workers
    • Building workers
    • Beedi workers
    • Non-coal mine workers
    • Contract labourers
    • Other unorganised workers

About PMAY Benefits:

  • Aim: To provide 2 crore additional houses to eligible beneficiaries.
  • Objective: Facilitate access to affordable housing for low and moderate-income residents of India.

  • Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) (PMAY-U)
    • Focus: Urban poor
    • Administered by: Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs
  • Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (Gramin) (PMAY-G)
    • Focus: Rural poor
    • Administered by: Ministry of Rural Development
    • Also Known As: PMAY-R

    • Toilet Access: Ensures each house has a toilet.
    • Electricity Connection: Saubhagya Scheme for universal electricity access.
    • LPG Connection: Ujjwala Yojana for cooking gas connections.
