About Pro-tem Speaker:
- A pro-tem Speaker is a temporary position appointed by the President of India when the Lok Sabha and Legislative Assemblies are elected, but before the election of the official Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
- The primary duty is to administer the oath to newly elected members, while the President administers the oath to the Speaker pro-tem.
- Typically, the seniormost member in terms of tenure among the Members of the House is chosen for this role.
- The office of the pro-tem Speaker ceases once a new Speaker is elected.
