Prime Minister was recently spotted feeding Punganur cows on Makara Sankranthi.
About the Punganur Cows:
- The Punganur Cows are a breed of small-sized indigenous cattle that originated in the Punganur region of Andhra Pradesh, India.
- They are also termed as ‘Golden’ Breed because they produce highly nutritional A2 milk with elements akin to gold (Au).
- The A2 varietymilk does not contain the A1 beta-casein protein, which makes it difficult for some people to digest, however it does not leads to inflammation unlike A1 milk type.
Characteristics:
- Size: These cows are known for their small stature, making them one of the smallest cattle breeds in the world.
- Color: They are typically white or light gray in color with a broad forehead and short horns.
- Adaptability: Punganur cows are well-adapted to hot and dry climates, making them suitable for regions with arid conditions.
- The horns are crescent shaped and often loose curving backward and forward in males and lateral and forward in females.
Utility:
- Survivability: They are valued for their ability to thrive in harsh environmental conditions.
- Draught Purposes: They are also used for draught purposes in some regions.
- Milk Production: Punganur cows yield 1 to 3 liters of milk per day with a remarkable 8% milk fat content.
- Essential nutrients present in milk includes Omega fatty acids, calcium, potassium, and magnesium, contributing to good health.
