About Quad:

  • Quad, formally known as the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QSD), includes the United States, India, Australia, and Japan.
  • The Quad originated from the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami response efforts.
  • Initiated in 2007 by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
  • The first meeting was held alongside ASEAN and has met biannually since 2017.
  • Post-2017, it is known as QUAD 2.0, influenced by ASEAN Summit frameworks.
  • The Quad promotes a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.
  • Aims to keep the region prosperous, resilient, and a force for global good.
