A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) was recently signed to offtake power generated from Ratle Hydroelectric Project, Kishtwar, by Ratle Hydro Electric Power Corporation Limited (RHPCL).
About Ratle hydroelectric power project:
- It is an 850MW project is located on the Chenab River in the Kishtwar district of Jammu & Kashmir.
- It lies downstream of the Dulhasti project and upstream of the Baghlihar project in Kishtawar.
- This was planned based on a build, operate, own, and transfer (BOOT) basis in 2010, but faced opposition from Pakistan alleging violation of the Indus Water Treaty.
- Ratle Hydro Electric Power Corporation Limited (RHPCL) was formed as a joint venture of NHPC Limited and Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC) in 2019.
- The project is a run-of-the-river hydroelectric power station that will use the energy from flowing water to generate electricity without a large dam or reservoir.
- The plant is 133 meters high and is expected to open in 2026 and supply electricity to Rajasthan for 40 years.
