India’s Stance:
- India chose to abstain from voting on the draft resolution.
- Other countries that abstained include Australia, Canada, Germany, Japan, Ukraine, and the UK.
- 120 nations voted in favour, 14 voted against, and 45 abstained.
- India voted in favour of a proposed amendment by Canada, which unequivocally condemned Operation Al-Aqsa Storm by Hamas.
- India reiterated support for the Two-State Solution.
- India called for de-escalation and the resumption of direct peace negotiations.
What is Two-State Solution?
- Two-State Solution is a proposed solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict, aiming to establish two separate states.
- Israel would exist alongside an independent Palestinian state.
- Objective: To provide a peaceful resolution and meet the aspirations of both the Jewish and Palestinian communities.

- Hamas is a Palestinian political and military group.
- It has controlled the Gaza Strip since 2007.
- India has not designated Hamas as a terrorist organization yet.
- However, it is designated as a terrorist organization by several countries such as Israel, the United States, Canada, Australia, European Union (EU) etc.
