Explore how the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) scheme, launched by the USOF, supports innovative projects like the 6G Compact Chip development collaboration between C-DOT and IIT Roorkee.
Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) Scheme:
- The Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF), a body under the Department of Telecommunications, officially launched the TTDF Scheme in 2022.
- It provides funding support to domestic companies and institutions involved in technology design, development, commercialization of telecommunication products and solutions to enable affordable broadband and mobile services in rural and remote areas.
- It aims to fund R&D in rural-specific communication technology applications and form synergies among academia, start-ups, research institutes, and the industry to build and develop the telecom ecosystem.
- Additionally, the Scheme aims to promote technology ownership and indigenous manufacturing, create a culture of technology co-innovation, reduce imports, boost export opportunities and creation of Intellectual Property.
Compact 6G Chip Innovation:
- The primary goal of this collaboration is to create a Fully Integrated Transmitter and Receiver Module operating at 140 GHz, catering to the demands of 6G and future technologies.
- The uniqueness lies in generating, transmitting, and integrating Terahertz (THz) waves onto a single chip.
- This breakthrough approach results in a considerable reduction in system size, weight, and power consumption, making it suitable for integration into portable devices such as smartphones, laptops, and wearables.
- The chip is poised to support data rates of several gigabits per second, enabling high-speed data transfer within and between chips.
- Successful completion of this project will contribute to the development of next-generation ultra-fast, low-latency 6G networks.
