Scientists have recently applied Functional Ultrasound Imaging (fUSI) to map brain activities, utilizing this technique to detect or measure changes in sensitive, large-scale, high-resolution neural activities
About Ultrasound Technology:
- Ultrasound technology employs high-frequency sound waves (above 20 kHz) to generate real-time images or videos of internal organs or soft tissues, such as blood vessels, without requiring surgical incisions.
- This technology is considered safer than X-rays as it does not involve radiation and relies on the piezoelectric effect, where specific materials produce an electric charge in response to applied mechanical stress.
- Besides its use in diagnostic medicine, ultrasound is also employed in underwater acoustics (Sonar), non-destructive testing of materials, and even in processes like welding and cleaning.
