The 17th Conference of State Parties to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) recently took place in New York, focusing on the theme “Rethinking disability inclusion in the current international juncture and ahead of the Summit of the Future”.
About UNCRPD:
- The UNCRPD is an international human rights treaty established to protect the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities (PwD), who have long-term physical, mental, intellectual, or sensory impairments.
- Originating in New York in 2006 and enacted in 2008, the convention currently boasts 164 signatories, including India, though it has been ratified by only 20 countries, excluding India.
