Arab League recently adopted a declaration urging the deployment of UN Peacekeeping forces until a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict is realized.
About UN Peacekeeping force (UNPKF):
- UN Peacekeeping was initiated in 1948 when the UN sent military observers to West Asia to monitor the Armistice Agreement.
- Its goal is to assist countries in transitioning from conflict to peace, adhering to principles like the consent of the parties, impartiality, and the non-use of force except for self-defense or mandate defense.
- The deployment of UN Peacekeeping forces is decided by the Security Council through a resolution, with budget and resources approved by the General Assembly.
- Every member state is legally required to contribute financially to peacekeeping efforts, as managed and directed by the Department of Peace Operations (DPO) of the UN.
- The Arab League, established in 1945, aims to foster regional cooperation and resolve disputes among countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
