UNHCR 2024 Global Trends Report: The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has released its latest report revealing that worldwide levels of forced displacement have reached a new high.
Key Highlights:
- Approximately 117.3 million people were forcibly displaced by the end of 2023, with children under 18 years comprising 40% of this population.
- The number of Internally Displaced People (IDP) has escalated to 68.3 million, marking a nearly 50% increase over the past five years.
- 73% of refugees come from just five countries: Afghanistan, Syrian Arab Republic, Venezuela, Ukraine, and South Sudan.
